Communication and Standards in Real Estate Teams
LinkedIn has become more than a place for me to share—it’s a place I go to receive critical career feedback and advice. And today, I have a burning issue I want to get your take on.
In real estate, we meet and interact with many different people—and sometimes, they operate completely differently from us. Part of it is personality, but part of it is a **lack of clear standards** in the industry.
Personally, I’ve studied, researched, and built a framework that aligns with my values and non-negotiables as a professional.
Let’s use an easy example: **communication**.
You know those friends who say things like:
- _"I’m bad at communication."_
- _"I don’t pick up unknown numbers."_
- _"I’m terrible with WhatsApp."_
Now, these may be examples—but let’s be real. In this day and age, **communication is key**. Whether the feedback is positive or not, you should be able to respond.
We need to stop being bad at communicating our roles—especially if you’re collaborating on a transaction, or worse, **working in a team**. It’s frustrating when you try to cover for someone, but they won’t even have the decency to get back to you.
I’m still trying to figure this one out.
But the reason I wrote this is to ask for your advice:
**How do I teach myself to work with others?**
Especially in teams where I know I bring value—or in situations where I’m leading?
Because regardless of what I do or where I am, I’m going to need others.
And without clear communication and shared standards—we all risk burning out.
